What are Digital Marketing Modules?

Now, I will go through each component one by one and give you an overview.

So these are the primary component of Digital Marketing are :-

  1. Search Engine Marketing
  2. Social Media Marketing
  3. Search Engine Optimization
  4. Content Marketing
  5. Email Marketing
  6. Web Analytics
  7. Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO)
  8. Sales Funnels

Now, since you are  just starting your digital marketing journey, I wont expect you to become an expert in all these fields. So, there are jobs for just search engine marketing, there are jobs for just social media marketing. Similarly for search engine optimization or SEP. Similarly for content marketing, email marketing and web analytics. But as a digital marketer you must know all of these at least the overview of how these works. Then later on you can find a specialization for yourself, the one that interests you the most. Get specialized in it, and become an expert in that. Usually, there are two options either you become an expert in one particular field and grow like that, or secondly you can get a good level of understanding in all these fields and become a digital marketing manger.

1) Search Engine Marketing (SEM) :-

Now, I am sure that all of you must have searched something in Google search engine. So, you must have seen a lot of ads on Google. So, let's say if you are a new business, you have just opened up your website then you won't be able to rank yourself on the number one position. Because flipkart has done a lot to get this number one position. So, to drive traffic to your website, you need to purchase Google Ads. So, that you can instantly get yourself in the number one or number two position, you can do this using Google ad words. So you can pay money to Google to get ranked in the number one or number two, result depending on the quality score of your ad. So this is what search engine marketing is. Learning the art of running good Google Ads that actually make money for the business. So, it might look simple that you just have to find the keywords and start the Ad, but honesty it is not that simple. Its a complicated field where you have to learn a lots of things.

2) Social Media Marketing (SMM) :-

Now, most of you must only know about social media marketing. So, you must be using "Facebook", "Instagram" or maybe the new apps like "MX Taka Tak". So, all these emerging social media channels, they have huge audience. Like "Facebook" has multiple billion people on their channel. Similarly, "Twitter" has their audience. And now people are moving from "Facebook" rather to "Instagram". Now "Instagram" is the trend of the social media, and whenever there is a huge audience, there are opportunities for advertisement. So, this is where social media marketing comes into play. Now, social media marketing refers to the process of gaining traffic or attention through social media sites.

3) Search Engine Optimization (SEO) :-

Now, let's talk about the Search Engine Optimization also known as SEO. It is the process of driving traffic from search engine like Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.. to your website. Now, the best part about SEO is that the traffic is free. Once your article starts ranking on Google search engines, you'll be driving free traffic and all the money you make after the traffic visit your website that will be a profit. So, that is the reason I focus a lot on search engine optimization.

4) Content Marketing :-

Now, content marketing has been extremely popular from the last few years now. Because the customer acquisition model has changed. Content marketing is a very strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience to drive profitable customer action.

Now, this definition might have sounded very complicated, but in simple words, content marketing is all about creating content, so that you can provide value to your prospective customer.

5) Email Marketing :-

Now, let's talk about email marketing. Honestly, in India, specifically email marketing is not that popular. Companies are using it but primarily the blogger and influencers are not using email to communicate with their audience. I'm a strong believer of email marketing. Email marketing is also forming a big chunk of the revenue. So, for me, email marketing becomes extremely important for my business.

So, email marketing is not just uploading a list of people to send to and spam them, it is much more complicated than that. You, also have to use specific tools, you also have to know the style of writing the emails, creating  trip sequences and all. So, all that will be discussed in the email marketing module.

6) Web Analytics :-

Web analytics is the process of analyzing the behavior of visitors to a website. So, I will be tell you the process of web analytics for your advantage in the analytics module.

7) Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) :-

This is a moderate concept in digital marketing but a very important one. Conversion optimization helps you in getting more out of your funnel. CRO is all about percentage of people going from one stage of the funnel to the next stage. Now CRO can drastically affect the performance of your funnel. Because for the same expense, you'll be making more money from your funnel.

8) Sales Funnels:-

Now, the sales funnel is an extremely important part of any business. Because the ultimate goal of a business, to use digital marketing, is to drive sales to make profit or to sale their product or services.

To create sales funnel, you have to have the knowledge of a comprehensive digital marketing approach. You need to know all the all the work details of digital marketing in order to create a profitable and a successful sales funnel. An idle sequence of events someone goes through to go from traffic to repeat customer is the whole essence of sales funnel. It's a system that adds and removes barrier for someone to become a customer when its appropriate.

This funnel has four important steps : awareness, interest, decision, action. Now, this might sound very complicated, but in simple steps, consider yourself as a customer and think through the journey as a customer to buy a product. So, first of all, you need to make the customer aware of the product.

How to start a Blog ?

A blog is one of the most important step in your journey to become a good digital marketer. So, even today whenever a new tool comes up or whenever a new technique of doing digital marketing comes up, I always make sure that I do it by hand. Digital Marketing is not something that you can learn just by looking at a theory or watching videos. Unless and until you are implementing the tactics, you wont be able to learn it. Trust me guys, if you really want to become a good digital marketer, a pro digital marketer, then starting a blog is the most important step.

So, whenever you are building a blog, the first thing that you need to know is the domain name.

 What is Domain name ?

A domain name is a website name. A domain name is an address where internet users can access your website. Like the case of Facebook . Now, "facebook.com" is the domain name for the company Facebook. Similarly, "google.com" is the domain name for the company Google. I know it's very simple, but still I'm explaining it for people who don't know it.
Now, there can be multiple extensions of your domain name. The popular ones are ".com" definitely ( Like "google.com", "facebook.com", "instagram.com" ). ".com" is suited more for the international audience. But when you are targeting specific countries, like if you take the case of India, if you want to target only the Indian audience, then you can go for ".in".

Now, after the domain name, to start a blog you need a hosting.

What is a Web Hosting ?

A web hosting is a service that allows organizations and individuals to post a website or a web on the internet. So, just like you have box and covers to store your stuff, similarly your website also need a place to store all the files and the folders. A website is nothing but a directory of files and various folders that are rendered through a server or a particular domain name.
So, whenever you are thinking of starting a blog, you need two things : First is a domain name and second is a website hosting.

Now, hosting also comes in different varieties are :-

  • Shared web hosting
  • Cloud hosting
  • Dedicated hosting

1) Shared Web Hosting :-

Now, shared web hosting is a type of web hosting that allows multiple websites to share a physical web server and its resources among the hosted websites. So, whenever you are buying a web hosting you're actually buying the space of the various servers. So there are various companies that sell web hosting like "Site-Ground", "Go-Daddy'', "Blue-Host". So, whenever you are buying a hosting, you are actually buying some space on the server of this company. So these companies have massive servers so you are actually paying a monthly fee for some space on these servers.

So, whenever we talk about shared web hosting, you're actually taking a small part of the server. Because taking the entire server will be really expensive, so shared web hosting is a solution for people to start their blog at a very cheap price by taking a small part of the server.

So to understand this clearly, A server has multiple website and they pay a small fee just to have some part of the server usage. And this is what you will purchasing to start a blog as well because this is the cheapest option. And also for beginners or people who are starting out with Digital Marketing or just starting a blog, a shared web hosting is more than enough because you are not driving a huge amount of traffic, because you are just starting out.

2) Cloud Hosting :-

Now cloud hosting services provide hosting services or virtual servers which pull their computing resources from extensive underlying network of physical web servers. In cloud hosting your files are hosting in a cloud server. Now just like I told you the cloud hosting is used to established websites that are driving a massive traffic, because it is costly as well so startup people or people who are just starting up with digital marketing or starting with blogging, they should not consider it.

3) Dedicated Hosting :-

Now, dedicated hosting is for the extremely popular websites that are driving millions of people on a monthly basis. And they need that kind of server resources, so this is when dedicated hosting comes into play. So websites like Facebook.com, Google.com, or even very big popular website which are driving multi-million people per month. So, they need to go for dedicated hosting.
In dedicated hosting instead of sharing the server with multiple website, you own  the entire server, so you own all the resources.
And also dedicated hosting is quite complex, so you'll really not goanna as a beginner you can not manage it. You will need to hire a server person who will be handling the entire server.
But dedicated hosting are extremely fast and can handle enormous traffic just because you are not sharing the space with anyone else.

To people who are just starting or individual bloggers, dedicated hosting is not a solution it is more for big businesses.

 Free Hosting and Paid Hosting

Especially in India, "free" is something that is really preferred. And people think "why pay for hosting when you can everything for free ?. But you have to understand one things that nothing good is free in the world. Yes, free hosting does exist but they have their limitations, they have drawback and honestly, they are not worth it. If you are starting this digital marketing journey, then you have to invest some money in paid hosting. Because as I said, the only way you can learn digital marketing is through practical knowledge and these free web hosting providers they are honestly very shitty, they have limited server resources, they have unstable performances that means your website will go blank or will give 404 error even with small traffic. And the worst part is there will be no technical support.
Since you are starting out your blogging sooner or later you will face issues. You will face problem like , installing WordPress or something plugin is not working. Then you need someone to talk to. That's where the web hosting company comes into play. There are support people, you can directly call them or live chat with them and they will solve the issue for you. But with free hosting, nothing like that comes.
In free hosting there is no technical support and also in my experience I have seen that free hosting
scams are going on, where they will offer you free hosting for a month or two, but you won't even realize that after two months or even four months, they'll charge you a huge renewal fee.
So personally  I would recommend you to stay away from free hosting and rather just invest a few dollars in a paid hosting plans.
